Working Woman

Well I should probably clarify, I've worked through all of college but it's only been part time, so now that I'm working full time, WHOA.
I got to Friday and was exhausted! I fell asleep at 11 PM and didn't wake up until 11 the next morning!

But I love having this little break from homework. I get off work at 5 and head right to the gym (I'm terrible at maintaining a good workout schedule when I am in school! I'll be good for a week, and then I'll have a couple tests to study for, and then somehow it's been 3 months and I haven't been back to the gym haha), then I come home and actually make dinner!

I love it. Having time for all this homemaking stuff is awesome.

A few of my new year's resolutions include some big apartment projects that I'm excited to have time to do, and I'll most definitely share on here as I complete them, like:

- reorganizing and cleaning out all my kitchen cupboards (I probably won't share pics of this one haha boring!)
- redesigning my bookshelves (still toying with a few ideas on how I want to do this one!)
- replacing and rearranging my picture wall! I am so excited about this one.

To name a few.

Ooh I've also started back into my shopping fast
Starting Jan 1  and ending May 1.

Feel free to join me! It's so refreshing to exercise that self control and really makes you realize wants vs needs in a way I was never able to before.
Plus come May 1 shopping is suddenly so much more fun

Sick & Tired

Whoa.
This week hit me like a ton of bricks.
I was dreading the first day of school (did anyone else not feel ready AT ALL to go back yet? Just me?) and my desire to stay home on Monday was granted when I woke up in the wee hours of the morning with the FLU.

And I was furious about it.
I haven't gotten sick in... I don't know, 8 years?? I can't even remember. And I mean sick at all -- no colds or anything. And then I go and get the flu and have to miss the first day of classes.

Thankfully it was just a 24-hour reign of terror but it completely wiped me out and rendered me pretty useless for the rest of the week.
And JP has been hovering on the fringes of catching it, poor guy. I tried to sanitize absolutely everything in our home but when you live in a one bedroom apartment and sleep in the same bed, you're kind of fighting a losing battle on the whole not-getting-each-others-germs front.
*keeping our fingers crossed*

But there's a faint light at the end of this sickness tunnel and this second-to-last semester of my college career is shaping up to be a crazy one again, so bring it on!

Biggest Cram Sesh of My Life

I'm sort of drowning over here.
After a whirlwind week of finishing massive class projects, taking two exams (that aren't even finals!), and hosting/attending Christmas parties, finals week is upon me and I somehow have less than 24 hours to study for two scheduled final exams tomorrow morning.

Our apartment looks like a bomb went off, I'm crossing my fingers that I have enough clean clothes to last me through the week, and don't even get me started on how atrocious my eating habits have become in the past 72 hours.
Can you say d i s a s t e r?

Whew. But hey, I sort of live for this. I have a weird love for it all -- the tense atmosphere plus the complete lack of sleep plus massive amounts of pressure everyone is under eventually all comes to a head and results in some pretty hilarious things happening, especially when you're in the library past midnight every night.

And then come Friday, you've done it and it's over and your body sort of breaks down (I always get sick the week after finals) and you can sleep in and actually have time to go to the gym and eat three meals a day.

But whoa, lets not get ahead of ourselves there. That glorious freedom is still five days away!

Wish me luck, I'm certainly going to need it.

That being said, I do have some catching up I need to do on this blog here, so a bunch of new posts are slowly but surely coming in the near future :)

The one & only thanksgiving decoration gracing our home...

aww... festive isn't it?

Okay not really. But hey, don't I deserve a few points for trying? These past few weeks have flown by and suddenly Thanksgiving is a mere two days away. And the motivation to decorate our tiny apartment that doesn't even have a fireplace mantle (oh! the injustice!) is seriously lacking.
So three cheers for free printables off the internet!
This particular beauty is from here.

And I hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving!
I am in charge of baking the rolls for our feast, can you say stress? Crossing my fingers that they rise properly and I don't burn them...

Hooray for Voting!

Today is the very first time I was able to vote for a president of the United States.
I loved feeling like I actually have somewhat of a say in my country, and although I've really enjoyed learning about all the different views and policies and plans each candidate has for our country, I am so anxious for tonight/tomorrow morning when it is finally over and we get to see who is going to be our president for the next four years.
So hooray for voting!

(and if you're in Provo, Einstein Bagels is giving away free bagels to those who have a voting sticker!)

Yesterday was really awful:

Yesterday was awful.
One for the record books, really.
I have to say it is rare I classify a whole day as a "bad day" but yesterday definitely made that list.

Exhibit A) I arrive at my 8 AM class that requires a calculator, only to discover that one of the AA batteries (the calculator requires 4, which is an atrocity in its own right) has self imploded and leaked acid all over the other 3, therefore rendering my calculator useless to me.

Exhibit B) For my 10 AM class, I realized my iClicker is broken as well (an iClicker is a fancy device professors use to efficiently quiz students in large classes) so I ran to buy a new one (see ya $40) and then apparently dropped my brand-new iClicker on my way to my class and, upon realizing I didn't have it with me anymore, had to retrace my steps frantically in an attempt to find it (but I did indeed find it, phew)

Exhibit C) After my lovely 10 AM class, I walk out to my car to find a surprise from the BYU police on the windshield. BAM. Ticket. Kill me.

Exhibit D) Then I drop my iPhone and the front screen SHATTERS. Completely.

Exhibit E) In my next class, I am on my laptop taking notes/doing a homework assignment and it dies. And of course I didn't think to bring the charger because aren't laptop batteries supposed to hold a charge longer than 1 hour?

Exhibit F) Then my phone dies -rendering it more useless than before, which I hadn't considered to be possible.

So there I was, no laptop, no phone, with 3 hours left of class until I would get to go home, and two assignments to complete before midnight (it is 6 PM at this point).

When I did finally make it home, the only thing that prevented me from bursting into tears as soon as I walked through the door was Mr JP's offer to go buy me a chocolate-chip-cookie-dough cupcake from The Sweet Tooth Fairy, which I took him up on.

Sorry there are no pictures to go with this post, but I want to block this whole day from my memory, and pictures tend to do the opposite haha.
